Thanks to the new Apple H1 chip, AirPods include optical sensors and motion accelerometers that can detect when you're wearing them. Whether you're wearing both or just one, the H1 chip automatically distributes audio and activates the microphone. When you talk on the phone or ask Siri something, a second later, AirPods will automatically detect the sound you're wearing.
